CHIDLOW FAMILY TREE
The Chidlow Family Tree in Ancestry.com is built around Richard Chidlow (1886-1968) and Emily Bradshaw (1882-1974). Both of their families lived in the Hodnet area of North Shropshire. Most of the research on the tree has been focused on discovering the ancestors of the two families and their immediate relatives. However a summary of the current generations is shown below.
Richard Chidlow was the second of 6 children born to Richard Chidlow (1863-1902) and Emily Evans (1864-1908). His 2 oldest sisters, Frances and Sarah, died in childhood from diphtheria within a few weeks of each other. His other younger siblings were Nellie, Emily and Herbert.
Emily Bradshaw was one of 9 children born to Richard Bradshaw (1847-1922) and Ellen Evanson (1849-1933) of Marchamley Wood. A sister, Alice, died age 6; her other siblings were William, Amelia (“Millie”), Alfred, Mary, Jabez, Ellen (“Nellie”) and Richard Henry.
Richard Chidlow and Emily Bradshaw married in 1909. They lived first in Marchamley, then moved to Brook Farm, Linford, Weston-under-Redcastle and in 1948 retired in Prees Green. They had 8 children, 6 of whom survived to adulthood. A child born in 1911 survived only a few hours and a daughter, Jessie, died at age 3. The 6 other Chidlow children with spouses and children are listed below.
There were 25 grandchildren - the eldest was Margaret Jessie Roberts born 1935 and the youngest Robert Leslie Chidlow born 1963. Most of the grandchildren settled around the area where they were born (or returned after working elsewhere). Colin Manning moved to the Isle of Man, Robert Chidlow moved to France and Richard V. Chidlow moved to Texas, USA.
The next generation of great grandchildren are a little more scattered, as would have been expected, with representatives in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
